Inclusion

Safe CIC

Everyone in our schools will work together in a nurturing environment to provide each child with challenging opportunities that encourage a desire for life-long learning

At the HEARTS Academy Trust it is the belief that all children have an equal right to a full and rounded education which will enable them to achieve their full potential. We use our best endeavours to secure special educational provision for pupils for whom this is required, that is ‘additional to and different from’ that provided within the differentiated curriculum to better respond to the four areas of need identified in the Code of Practice (September 2014).

  • Communication and interaction
  • Cognition and learning
  • Social, mental and emotional health
  • Sensory/physical

The changes in the Children and Families Bill affect the way children with special educational needs (SEND) are supported in schools. The approach places pupils at the centre of planning. The key principles of the legislation are:

  1. Young people and their families should be involved in discussions about the support they need, so they can share their knowledge and feed back to the school on the young person’s progress.
  2. Education, health and care plans (EHC) have replaced statements of special educational needs.
  3. School Action and School Action Plus have been replaced by a single school-based category for children who need extra specialist support.

Waterman Primary School is well placed to adopt these changes and looks forward to working with pupils and parents/carers to ensure fully inclusive access to our education.

Essex County Council publish their SEND local offer and it can viewed here .
